There are plenty of AVIATION channels on YouTube, but I don't think you'll ever find anything quite like this. The "Cockpit Casual" series gives a rare glimpse into the world of delivering (empty) airliners around the world.

Imagine piloting virtually every type of airliner, on a regular basis, between over 80 countries; and doing it wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and a ball cap... Welcome to the life of a ferry pilot! My name is Steve Giordano and Bob and I started out as airline pilots, before turning to this life full-time. We now operate the Nomadic Aviation Group and we've been living the dream for over 20 years.

I film, write, edit, narrate, and produce all the content completely by myself; and the majority of the Jazz featured in the videos is original music performed by my father (Steve Giordano Sr.) and his bandmates.

I'll continue to post awesome original content - but it takes a lot of time and effort - so please subscribe & be patient :)
Quality over quantity!

In Part 2 of Life Nomadic: The Scenic Route, the journey slows down before it speeds back up.

Steve and Pat begin in Muscat, Oman, wandering through Old Muscat and the winding alleys of Mutrah Souq—a rare pause on an otherwise nonstop career spent ferrying airliners around the world. Steve reflects on how, in the early days, each destination felt exotic and distinct… and how, over time, constant global travel can blur into routine.

Ironically, it’s making Cockpit Casual that has brought the adventure back.
With cameras in hand, every place matters again.

From Muscat, the mission resumes as they fly a retiring Airbus A319 on its final journey—out of China and ultimately bound for the scrapyard in the UK. The next leg departs Oman for Cairo, crossing vast stretches of the Omani and Saudi deserts, capturing some of the most cinematic in-flight footage ever filmed for the series.

The sequence is set to an original, space-inspired composition by Symbiosis, underscoring the scale, isolation, and beauty of ferrying an airliner across the Middle East.

This is Life Nomadic at its core:
Airplanes, travel, reflection—and finding meaning in the miles between Point A and Point B.

In Part 1 of Life Nomadic: The Scenic Route, Steve and Pat ferry a retiring Airbus A319 out of Harbin, China, beginning its final journey toward the scrapyard in the UK.

But this isn’t just another ferry flight.

As the global aviation industry slowed dramatically in 2025, the mission profile changed. Instead of delivering aircraft to airlines, Nomadic Aviation pivoted toward the part-out market—pulling aging airframes out of service and delivering them to facilities around the world where high-value components like engines, APUs, and landing gear are removed, and the remaining airframe is scrapped.

In this cinematic episode of Cockpit Casual, Steve takes a step back to assess the state of the industry, unpacking the economic and geopolitical factors that led to the slowdown—and how those shifts are reshaping the kind of flying being done today.

From there, the journey begins.
The A319 departs China and launches into a globe-spanning odyssey with stops in Calcutta, India, Muscat, Oman, and Cairo, Egypt—a reminder that even in a down market, moving airliners around the world is anything but ordinary.

Part 1 concludes in Muscat, setting the stage for Part 2, where the story slows down on the ground before continuing the long way home.

On the latest installation of Cockpit Casual, Steve Giordano and Bob Allen circumnavigate their way around planet Earth again, this time delivering a Boeing B777-300ER (77W) from Phoenix to Abu Dhabi, then onto Tianjin China to grab an Airbus A320 destined for part-out in Brunswick Maine (USA).

The quintessential example of the life of a "Ferry Pilot", a two-ship circumnavigation is always a grueling, but worthwhile way to spend a week! The episode is divided into two-parts which will drop a week apart.

On this, the first part: Steve and Bob meet-up in Phoenix along with 2 other pilots for the 15 hour non-stop to the Middle East. Then, it's quite the adventure as the pair hop an Emirates A380 to China before they get delayed. The second part of the episode picks up in China when things get crazy.

As usual, the episode is packed with original music produced by Steve Giordano SR, and was filmed, written, edited, scored, narrated, and completely produced by Giordano in his (haha) "Spare" time.

The project took place in early January of 2023 and these were actually the first two aircraft pulled by lessors prior to the airline ceasing operations. In other words, these aircraft would "go first"!

The duo from Nomadic flew from Philly to Doha on Qatar Airlines, then on to Hyderabad where they did some sightseeing around Charminar with the go-pros. The next day, Steve took left seat in the first aircraft and flew it to Istanbul via Cairo. After arriving in Turkey, they overnighted and the next day went right back to Hyderabad to grab the second aircraft.

The project took the better part of a week, and was a non-stop, action packed adventure from the start. As usual, the episode features original Jazz from Steve Giordano Sr and lots of great footage from the Cockpit and around the world.

Just like in real life, immediately after the course, Steve heads down to Santiago Chile where he meets up with Nomadic's Wes Gardner and the two embark on an adventure ferrying a B-767 from Santiago to Singapore via Auckland.

The Santiago-Auckland leg was unique in that the great-circle routing passed so far south that Antarctic sea ice was visible from the cockpit. This episode is packed with action and beautiful vistas as the Nomadic team circles the earth yet again. Of course the episode also features original Jazz from Steve's fathers organ quartet aptly named "The Wings of Jazz".

Cockpit Casual returns with a new video featuring a mission to repossess 2 aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 and a B767-300ER on behalf of a US Lessor from service in Russia. After sanctions were placed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, civil aircraft leases were cancelled and the western lessors scrambled to recover their aircraft assets from Russian airlines. Very few aircraft were actually recovered, but Nomadic was able to assist in recovering a hand full of them.

On this mission, Bob and Steve flew to Turkey to grab a Boeing 737 from Antalya and a B-767 from Istanbul after they were voluntarily surrendered. The aircraft were registered in the USA and relocated to Roswell New Mexico and Goodyear Arizona respectively.

The video features NEW MUSIC from the "Wings of Jazz"; Steve Giordano Sr.'s latest Organ-Quartet.

The three duck around some thunderstorms, fly a 13.5 hour leg to Honolulu, where they take a brief rest period in Waikiki before flying the second and final leg: 9.5 hours nonstop to Miami.

The episode features realtime approach sequences in both HNL and MIA, and of course a lot of really sick jazz!

The first quarter of 2022 was a really busy time for the team at Nomadic. Normally, this is a slow period for airplane ferries, but not this year; an 11-ship Lionair return and some other long-hauls kept the gang busy. During this time, CC-CXE and CC-CXD were ready for pickup as newly converted freighters and Steve, Bob, and Ava had the honors of operating these flights.

Part Two features a look at these returns and focuses primarily on the delivery of CC-CXE, where special guest Jon Ostrower from The Air Current joins Steve and Bob as a stowaway from Singapore to Miami with a fuel stop in Honolulu. Ostrower is a renowned Aviation Journalist and joined up with Nomadic to experience one of our weekly adventures first hand. The Air Current will soon publish a feature where Jon tells the story from an outsider's expert perspective - and Part 2 & 3 of "The Cargo Conversion" documents the adventure through video.

As always, the series features original Jazz written and performed by Steve Giordano Sr.; along with Dave Posmontier and Bob Shomo from the Germantown Session - a studio session where Organ Trio Jazz was laid down for the sole purpose of Cockpit Casual! "The Germantown Session" is also available on iTunes, Youtube, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon.

Cockpit Casual - The Cargo Conversion (Part One)

Did you know that many cargo aircraft start life as passenger aircraft? Presently, Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, Airbus A321, A330, and MD-80s can be converted from "Passenger to Freighter" or (P2F). Soon, the A320 and B-777 will also join the list as new STCs are being developed. This is nothing new of course - 727s, DC-8s, DC-9s, DC-10s, and MD-11s have been converted for years. It's a great way to "recycle" aging airframes and engines and give new life and value to aircraft that still have years left in them.

The Air-Cargo market has remained hot throughout COVID, and many airlines used make-shift "Cabin Freighters" to continue to supplement their bottom line during the tough times from 2020 to 2022. LATAM Cargo, a subsidiary of the LATAM Airline Group is a dedicated all-cargo airline operating the Boeing 767-300-BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter). LATAM (Lan Chile and TAM) operated passenger 767-300ERs for many years, and as they retire them from passenger service, they send them over to Singapore to be converted to full freighters. In doing so, they utilize the expert-services of Steve Giordano and his team at the Nomadic Aviation Group to bring the empty aircraft from the United States to Singapore where the conversions take place over a 3-4 month period.

The Cargo Conversion series follows the journey of a pair of such aircraft: CC-CXE and CC-CXD as they are ferried to Singapore via Anchorage, and then later returned to Miami via Honolulu. In Part One, you'll ride with Steve, Chris, and Tom as they fly these sister ships over to Singapore.

A rare non-aviation video from Speedtapefilms!

In October 2021, SpeedtapeFilms hosted a Jazz studio session with a legendary Philly Jazz "Organ Trio" featuring: Steve Giordano Sr. (Guitar), Dave Posmontier (Hammond B3), and Bob Shomo (Drums). The tracks were recorded by engineer Brendan McGeehan at the "Retro City Studios" in the Germantown section of Philadelphia for use in Cockpit Casual videos. The tracks were then combined into an LP titled "The Germantown Session".

The "Organ Trio" is a classic Jazz accompaniment which utilizes the Hammond B3 organ as both a melodic instrument and as bass. It's one of my favorite combinations. Giordano, Posmontier, and Shomo are "old school" Jazz legends in Philly and this session was amazing to watch.

Cockpit Casual - A Tale of 7 Virgins (Part Four)

On the final installment of the four-part series, Steve and Jon complete one of the final re-deliveries of a Boeing 737-800 to Virgin Australia from the California Desert. Picking up where part 3 left off; on departure out of Honolulu, the route passes over Johnston Atoll (PJON) and then lands in Majuro, in the US Marshall Islands (PKMJ/MAJ) for fuel.

The episode features a real-time visual approach and landing, as well as the departure from Majuro from multiple cockpit camera views in 4K.

In stark contrast to the Cockpit Casual series, "The Tourist" is a 20 minute journey around the planet Earth from the cockpit; on-board a variety of airliners with Steve Giordano and the NOMADIC.AERO team. With minimal narration, the video is more like a moving portrait featuring the avant-garde ambient sounds of the Symbiosis Syndicate, Steve Giordano SR's spacey and melodic jazz group.

It is highly recommended that you wear headphones and view in its highest quality "Super HD" format to fully appreciate this video. It's not the kind of thing that you'll want to casually view with a cellphone. The subtle sound effects paired with the vivid colors of HD video will provide you with an enjoyable escape from your day and into a world filled with natural beauty, inherent action, and fascinating footage. The music will help guide you through the voyage.

On this journey you'll experience takeoff and landing in every corner of the planet from remote islands to frigid tundras. Boeing, Airbus, Dehavilland and even the Ted Smith Aerostar is featured in this AvGeek delight. All of the video content was self-filmed and the music originally produced by Speedtapefilms regular contributor, the great Steve Giordano Sr.

#avgeek #aviation #cockpit #travel #airplanes #pilot #ferrypilot #airbus #avantgarde #jazz

"Cockpit Casual" (Teaser) | AvGeek Series | Cockpit View

A new original web-series focused on airplanes and world travel, as experienced through the unique perspective of professional ferry and flight-test pilots.

The series (coming August 2021) will follow veteran ferry-pilots Steve Giordano, Aaron Van Arsdale, and Bob Allen as they deliver, repossess, test, and ferry large commercial airliners around the world. Each episode will focus on a different flight operation and give viewers a sense of what it's like to travel to every corner of the earth, flying different types aircraft, and experiencing the local sights, sounds, and flavors of off-the-grid exotic locations.

Completely self-filmed, produced, and narrated, the series aims to be both entertaining and informative. On these highly irregular flights in this virtually invisible side of the aviation industry, we tackle complex logistical challenges, deal with constantly evolving situations, and find ways to pass the down-time by exploring different cities. Sometimes we bring along golf clubs and hit the links in very unusual locations, and almost always get a chance to at least dabble in the local culture for a day or two before hopping back in an airplane and jetting off to another place thousands of miles away.

The series will be set to original progressive Jazz recorded by Steve Giordano's father, a professional Jazz guitarist (also named Steve Giordano) well known in the Philly and New York jazz scene since the 1970s. We feel that Jazz is the best accompaniment to this crazy lifestyle because like the musical style, ferry-flying is almost always pure improvisation centered around a structured theme. Each trip has a general framework and planned outcome, but due to the nature of irregular operations, we often improvise to various situations ultimately resulting in endless interesting stories that until now, have remained untold.

We are currently filming and adding to our vast library of content and will begin releasing videos in the Cockpit-Casual series in Late August.

#avgeek #aviation #cockpit #trailer #travel #airplanes #pilot #ferrypilot #airbus #vlog #docuseries #jazz #boeing

<itunes:summary>A new original web-series focused on airplanes and world travel, as experienced through the unique perspective of professional ferry and flight-test pilots.
