The duo from Nomadic flew from Philly to Doha on Qatar Airlines, then on to Hyderabad where they did some sightseeing around Charminar with the go-pros. The next day, Steve took left seat in the first aircraft and flew it to Istanbul via Cairo. After sanctions were placed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, civil aircraft leases were cancelled and the western lessors scrambled to recover their aircraft assets from Russian airlines. Very few aircraft were actually recovered, but Nomadic was able to assist in recovering a hand full of them. On this mission, Bob and Steve flew to Turkey to grab a Boeing 737 from Antalya and a B-767 from Istanbul after they were voluntarily surrendered. Presently, Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, Airbus A321, A330, and MD-80s can be converted from "Passenger to Freighter" or (P2F). Soon, the A320 and B-777 will also join the list as new STCs are being developed. This is nothing new of course - 727s, DC-8s, DC-9s, DC-10s, and MD-11s have been converted for years. It's a great way to "recycle" aging airframes and engines and give new life and value to aircraft that still have years left in them. The Air-Cargo market has remained hot throughout COVID, and many airlines used make-shift "Cabin Freighters" to continue to supplement their bottom line during the tough times from 2020 to 2022. LATAM Cargo, a subsidiary of the LATAM Airline Group is a dedicated all-cargo airline operating the Boeing 767-300-BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter). LATAM (Lan Chile and TAM) operated passenger 767-300ERs for many years, and as they retire them from passenger service, they send them over to Singapore to be converted to full freighters. Completely self-filmed, produced, and narrated, the series aims to be both entertaining and informative. On these highly irregular flights in this virtually invisible side of the aviation industry, we tackle complex logistical challenges, deal with constantly evolving situations, and find ways to pass the down-time by exploring different cities. Sometimes we bring along golf clubs and hit the links in very unusual locations, and almost always get a chance to at least dabble in the local culture for a day or two before hopping back in an airplane and jetting off to another place thousands of miles away. The series will be set to original progressive Jazz recorded by Steve Giordano's father, a professional Jazz guitarist (also named Steve Giordano) well known in the Philly and New York jazz scene since the 1970s. We feel that Jazz is the best accompaniment to this crazy lifestyle because like the musical style, ferry-flying is almost always pure improvisation centered around a structured theme. Each trip has a general framework and planned outcome, but due to the nature of irregular operations, we often improvise to various situations ultimately resulting in endless interesting stories that until now, have remained untold.
